How To Operate A Heavy Duty Mobility Scooter

Mobility Scooter & Powerchair FAQ:

Q: The scooter won’t start/run.

A: There are several possible reasons for this, but the first thing to check is the battery. Make sure the scooter’s charger is properly connected to the scooter, then plug the charger into a standard electrical outlet. Allow the battery to charge fully until the meter indicates a full charge.

Q: Can I Use My Mobility Device In Inclement Weather?

A: Protect your scooter from the elements
Avoid exposing your scooter to rain or extreme temperatures whenever possible. If you must use it in inclement weather, take care to shield the electrical components from moisture. Additionally, if your scooter has a leather or fabric seat, consider using a cover or other protection to prevent damage and wear.

Q: The scooter is fully charged but will not operate.

A: There are several potential reasons why a scooter may fail to run even when the battery is fully charged:

1. The key is not inserted.
Make sure the scooter key is properly inserted into the keyhole and turned to the ON position.

2. The key is not fully inserted.
Insert the key completely into the keyhole and turn it to the ON position to ensure proper connection.

3. The manual free-wheeling switch or lever is engaged. - Check that the manual free-wheeling switch (or lever) is set to the OFF position. This feature allows you to disengage the motor and braking systems when manually pushing the scooter, but it must be turned off for normal operation.

Q: The scooter hesitates or moves slowly even when the throttle is fully pressed.

A: Several factors could cause this issue:

1. Low battery charge
The scooter’s batteries may be running low. Fully charge the batteries before resuming operation.

2. Operating on an incline
Reduced performance can occur when driving on an upward slope. Most scooters can handle gentle inclines, but speed may decrease—or the scooter may not move at all—if the slope is too steep.

3. Maximum weight capacity reached
If the rider’s weight is near the scooter’s maximum capacity, the scooter may operate more slowly than usual, especially on inclines.

Q: What Is The Difference If I Wanted To Rent A Power/Electric Wheelchair Instead of a Scooter?

A: Standard Powerchairs offer excellent maneuverability in small spaces because of their short wheel base. Many of our models can be disassembled for ease of transport, but we recommend a minivan or SUV with a removable third row for the most ideal mode of transportation.

1. Powerchairs are controlled with a joystick located on the armrest. The further away from the center you push the joystick, the faster you will go. Most of our models offer left or right-handed controls depending on your preference. The powerchair will brake automatically when the joystick is released, providing added security to the driver.

2. Some powerchair models come with a rotating seat and many have adjustable armrests and semi-reclining backs so you can fit it perfectly to your body. They also come with a footrest that can be folded away when the driver is getting in and out of the chair.

3. Many power chairs are able to turn with near zero-turn radius compared to scooters which help when needing to navigate narrow areas of travel

Power reclining Liftchair FAQ:

Q: What is a power lift chair?

A: A power lift chair is a comfortable, motorized recliner designed to help users sit and stand safely and easily. With the touch of a button, the chair gently lifts and tilts forward to assist in standing, or reclines for relaxation and rest.

Q:  Who can benefit from a lift chair?

A: Lift chairs are ideal for individuals who have difficulty standing up or sitting down due to age, injury, surgery recovery, arthritis, or limited mobility. They’re also great for anyone who simply wants added comfort and support.

Q: What’s included when I rent a power lift chair?

A: Your rental typically includes:

  • The power lift chair

  • A handheld remote control

  • Power cord and backup battery system

  • Setup and basic operating instructions

(Rental will include delivery and pickup, *unless other arrangements prior to delivery have been made)

Q: How do I operate the lift chair?

A: Use the handheld remote to control all chair movements. Press the “Up” button to lift the chair and help you stand, or press the “Down” button to recline to your preferred position. The motor operates smoothly and quietly for comfort and safety.

Q: Can I adjust the recline or leg rest separately?

A: Many models allow you to adjust the backrest and footrest independently for customized comfort. Check your specific model’s remote or user guide for details.

Q: Is there a weight limit for the lift chair?

A: Yes. Each chair has a specified weight capacity—usually between 300 and 400 pounds, depending on the model. Please confirm the capacity before renting to ensure safety and proper function.

Q: What should I do if the lift chair stops working?

A: Check that the chair is plugged into a working outlet and that the remote connection is secure. If it still doesn’t operate, contact our support team right away—do not attempt to open or repair the motor yourself.

Q: Can the chair be placed on carpet or hardwood floors?

A: Yes. Lift chairs can be used on most surfaces, but make sure the base sits flat and stable. For hardwood floors, you may wish to place a mat underneath to prevent scuffing.

Q:  Is there a backup in case of a power outage?

A: Yes. Most power lift chairs include a battery backup system that allows you to return the chair to a seated or standing position during a power outage.

Q: How do I clean and care for the chair?

A: Wipe the surface with a damp, soft cloth. For fabric upholstery, use a gentle upholstery cleaner (mild soap and water usually work best). Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive moisture. If you rent a chair with leather or faux leather, use a conditioner designed for that material.

Q: What happens at the end of my rental period?

A: When your rental period ends, simply contact us to schedule pickup. If you’d like to extend your rental or purchase a lift chair, we’ll be happy to assist, please call us at 704.821.7777
